Liberties

Shopping, she took the liberty to munch on an enormous yellow apple, umm…delicious. She ducked down one aisle and up another, looking for the Empire flour, wanting to make dumplings with the rest of the apples she’d chosen. Juice dripped from her chin; she bit once more.

The crunchy goodness masked the sound of handcuffs being opened as the officer approached. “Ma’am! You’ll need to come quietly. There’s a trail of cookies, another apple core–I insist that you place the apple you’re eating in this bag.”

She turned around, suppressing a giggle. “It’s just one apple!” she insisted, even as the handcuffs snapped into place.

    Oh, the mixed-up morality of a klepto…! 😀

I liked how easily this flowed, almost stream-of-consciousness. The interior monologue of the “umm…delicious” was a nice touch! I liked the details of the trail from the officer, too. Very matter of fact, but it still made me chuckle.

    Sweet!

The temptation to eat something whilst shopping is enormous – especially when they fill the store with the smell of freshly baked bread.

  3. A great take on the prompt x

I loved this! I always get annoyed when people start eating things in shops before they’ve paid, so this made me feel better!!

I’m with you…people seem to think their grazing is justified if they pay at the end. It still seems like poor impulse control and some form of stealing to me. Thanks for responding. 🙂

  5. That’ll learn her ! Enjoyed your take on the prompt words 🙂

Didn’t see that coming! Shame, she obviously saw the store as her extended grocery cupboard!
