…together the flames…

Vivaldi’s Trumpet Voluntary filled the ancient space, reverently permeating the cavernous room filled with family and friends. Stately, they walked to the altar, their just-so dresses belying the hours of preparation, the numerous shopping trips it took to make this final journey, stepping off the beginning of their lives in formal connection.

Resolutely, each woman took her individual candle, afire from the Christ candle, one blue, one pink, placing them in their holders outside the ring that held the single candle to be lit from these two. Together the flames would meld into one, symbolically joining their children, and the Mothers: in-laws, forevermore.
